We are located at the northwest corner of East 10th Avenue and Commercial Drive on Vancouver’s east side. It is a neighbourhood mosque that is easily accessible by SkyTrain and is a short walk from Broadway Station and nearby bus stops.
The masjid is named after ‘Omar ibn Al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him), one of the Righteous Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and the second Khalifah (Caliph) of Islam. ‘Omar ibn Al-Khattāb was affectionately nicknamed “Al-Farooq,” which refers to “one who has the ability to clearly distinguish between right and wrong” because of his strictness in enjoining good and forbidding evil.
The word “Masjid” simply refers to a building where one prostrates before God (“Allah” in Arabic) in worship.
We are open for the five daily prayers and Salatul Jumu’ah (Friday congregational prayers) as well as Taraweeh during Ramadan. Everyone is welcome, and we hope you will visit us soon, insha’Allah (God willing)!
